Social stories help prepare children for transitions and experiences. You can modify this one, about putting on winter clothes, to fit the needs of your child. Have fun with it! Draw illustrations together for the story or role play putting on weather appropriate clothing. These stories work well with most children and we recommend reading this one (or one like it) multiple times if putting on winter clothes is a struggle!
Putting on Winter Clothes.
It is winter outside. That means it is cold!
When it is cold outside, I have to wear warm clothes.
If I do not wear warm clothes, I could get too cold. It would not feel good!
Warm clothes are a coat, a hat, and mittens. I can also wear a scarf.
If there is snow on the ground, I might wear snow boots. They are warm too!
Putting on my warm clothes will make me comfortable in cold weather.
I can go outside in the winter when I wear warm clothes!
Going outside is fun all year long!
