    Does Your Child Have Trouble Letting Things Go?

    Can your child bounce back after something disappointing or upsetting happens?  Is he able to solve problems rationally?  Does he know the difference between a “big deal” and a “little deal”?  Lots of struggle with letting things go after a set-back.  Everything seems like a big deal, which can be overwhelming.

    are still learning.  It is up to us to them develop the resilience and problem solving skills that they will need to grow into healthy .  Luckily, there is in the form of Cheri Meiners’ book, Bounce Back! Bounce Back!  is part of Free Spirit Publishing’s Being the Best Me series, which is meant for ages 4-8.

    Through engaging illustrations, the reader is taken through a series of tough situations which are written from the viewpoint of a child.  A friend is moving away, a child falls during a basketball game, a mistake is made, a parent is sick – each situation is met with a positive solution where the child chooses to be ful, patient and resilient.

    As in most Free Spirit Publishing books, Bounce Back! has a ful parenting section in the back which encourages to reinforce the ideas in the book.  This includes key words to know, such as “admit”, “brave” and “choose”, as well as discussion questions for you and your child.  There are suggestions for games to , art activities, and even an idea for a “bounce back” song to sing when things get tough.

    Each book in this series is fantastic.  Bounce Back! is no exception.  It is a great way to encourage your child to grasp the all important skills of resilience and picking oneself up after a set-back.  Highly recommended!
