Social stories help prepare children for transitions and experiences. You can modify this one, about eating a meal together, to fit the needs of your child. Have fun with it! Draw illustrations together or google images of children sitting at the table if you want to add a visual. These stories work well with most children and we recommend reading this one multiple times if mealtime is a struggle!
Every day we eat meals. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are all meals.
Snacks are not meals.
It may be ok to eat snacks while I am playing, but meals are eaten at the table.
When it time for a meal, I will come to the table and sit in my chair.
Mommy and Daddy will sit too. We will all eat together.
I will stay in my chair until Mommy and Daddy say it is ok to get up.
I will eat my food and talk to Mommy and Daddy.
Talking is fun! I can ask Mommy and Daddy to tell me a story or I can tell a funny story.
When Mommy and Daddy say it is ok to get up, I can go play. I can also help clean up!
Eating meals together is really fun!0
